My tenant upstairs informed me today that there are birds in the attic. How do I get rid of them? I see a hole where they probably got in, which I’ll close once they leave.

did I mention that the search function here sucks?

Ah HA! get a rubber snake..or one of my live ones. Rubber snakes work real well. But, you oughta wait, by now the eggs are laid or hatched, I know I have em too.
After the young take off, seal any openings and next yr. you'll be OK..if they return, which ythey will..before the nesting gets serious, use the snake trick.

Why a rubber one, go to the "Snake Problems" thread ( 43622.1 ) and have them send you some real ones. It appears they would be happy to get rid of them so probably wouldn't charge you too much...
Someone makes a device that allows the birds to exit but prevents them from getting back in. I don't have any info on it.
It would be best to do this in the fall when you are not forcing the abandonment of babies.

Another day, another tool.
would love to wait until fall, but the birds are flapping around up there and keeping my tenant awake at night. Gonna try the rubber snake tomorrow.

If they have got babies and the snake trick works, how pi$$ed off is your tenant going to be by the smell of decomposing baby birds?
