I’ve been dodging rain storms to put up an 8×8 garden shed without bird’s mouths joints on the rafters. The roof is 5/12 and the walls are 6’9″. Rafters are 2×6. Toe nailed rafters with nailer using 3 1/4″ nails. Will put up at least two 2×6 braces to span width. Think it will stay up without the bird’s mouths

Probably, why no birdmouths?
In too much of a hurry!
Probably, but I'd add 3 straps to each side to tie the rafters to the top plate.
Easy, cheap insurance...buic
Thanks for the info. I'm going to strap down each rafter to the top plate and if possible to the stud inside. Already have on the sheathing.
As small as that is, there can't be much load on the roof to stress the nails at that joint, but you do need to understand that all that is keeping it together is the shear strength of two little old nails.
besides, it is far easier to cut the birdsmouth and have a seat to control it, especially working alone.

I'll bet you used a 2x6 or 2x8 ridge and the ridge ends are supported, so I'll say, "Yes."

Correctomundo!
You could rip your top plate to the appropriate angle. This way you could get your solid contact without dealing with the bird's mouths.

No neat signiture line.
He would have to rip it off 1-1/2" to nothing. Also, he's already done.Joe Carola
If your 2x6s are wall to wall, you won't have a problem, the end walls also add support, The sheathing on the ends will tie it together. you could add a few straps of some kind, (hurricane clips or similar)
If you meant just the rafters colapsing, just add a few coller ties. I'm guessing you live in montana, but it is so small I think you would be fine anyway.

Yes. I'm going to put in two colar ties and strap down the rafters too. I'll have to use simple strips as straps since I can't get any of the preshaped ones to fit with the rafters already up and still leave space for colar ties.
When I built Lindall cedar homes they would send out a top plate piece maybe 10' long cut with the proper angle to fit between the rafter and the regular plate....................rip two 8' 2x4 on a table saw at the proper angle and nail it on.
