I am looking for laminate flooring that will give me the classic black and white square look. One foot by one foot to 18 inches by 18 inches. My preference is for the interlocking, easy to install type.

Go to a floor store and they probably stock what you want ... sort of. Mannington has a line of vct ... "Manningtoin commercial, standard vinyl composition tile, Essentials and Designer Essentials" it says on the sample box I have. Armstrong will have a similar product.
It's not the self-stick thin-as-paper stuff, but rather traditional 1/8" solid tiles. But they are very easy to install. Even I can do it.
In the Mannington line, they have #101 Night Black and several whits, including #171 Mineral White which has a very slight green tinge, and #161 Steel White which has a very slight blue tinge, and about 4-5 others.

Thanks very much for your reply. What I am looking for is an interlocking liminate such that I can install it over a concrete floor with a pad between so that there is some give. I have checked with a lot of makers of flooring and have not found what I want. Lots of wood and even some that looks like slate or tile but nothing that I can make into alternating squares of black and white. Such a classic floor you would think someone would make it.
Oh, you want a click-lock laminate floor. Didn't catch that.

Is "classic" another word for "outdated"? lol
I'm thinking that no one makes such a floor because it hasn't been popular for around 40 years- except as the floor in autoparts stores and the "Horsepower TV" shop on Speed Channel. But if it makes you happy, go for it ;)

Good shot. However, as with all classic (read good) design it is timeless. Besides, that is what my wife wants. Additionally, it seems that whenever I am looking for something that doesn't exist at that time, I am just ahead of the times.
Ah, but classics are that way because they started doing it a long time ago. You are looking for a 'classic' floor with technology that has only become popular in the last decade. Modern technology sells to those willing to adopt it, and perhaps the group of people who are DIY and want this design in a laminate floor is fairly small. Especially when the same design can be had using 'classic' techniques.
Yes but, I still want it.
You might want to take a look at Quick Step Laminate. They make a tile pattern but it may not be black enough or white enough for you.
Thanks, I will look.
I suggest switching to the traditional black and gold ....

Look at Marmoleum Click by Forbo. Comes in 12" squares. They have a dark grey, and an off white. Might not me dark and light enough, but it's a good product.

This is the best lead that I have gotten and it really looks promising. Thank you. This is very helpful and I would never have found this on my own. I will be contacting the one supplier in the U.S. for samples.
I'll be sending you a bill for design services ...

Please do. And don't hold back. Thanks again.
I can't. You have not filled out your profile. We have no idea where you are.
