Few people understand it. Nobody agrees what it is, how to learn about it, or who's responsible for it. It has never been more important

I had the walls in my 1130sqft ranch house done over a year ago. The cost was a little over $1200 IIRC. It was done from the inside as the house was vacant at the time and needed repainting. It only took half a day. They used a sharpened piece of conduit to punch a 1" (approx.) hole in each stud bay above and below the fire block. It has made a noticeable difference in the ability to keep the house warm. I would definitely recommend it.
Unfortunately, I didn't think about the walls of the "closet" for the gas furnace which has direct air vent to the outside. So be sure to scope out all the places where insulation will be of value.
cellulose or chopped FG, great value if done by someone who knows their stuff.

Hi Joe.......Over all, I'd recommend foam as it will seal and insulate most anything anywhere and in your climate should pay for the difference in cost within several years. If budget is too tight, then cellulose is far better than nothing.

Check your local community for a weatherization program. If you qualify you might get blown insulation, thermal pane windows, weatherstriping, doors and other items free. (OK our taxes are paying for it but if you qualify for the program it is a great deal for you.)
