Hi All
I have done a few board and batten houses with locally cut white pine wood that we let season outside before instilation. I have also done a false Board and Batten by putting rough sawn battenes over rough sawn exterior ply. This time I am going to attach rough sawn 1×6 to the rs,ext ply on 16″ centers to make a board on board look. I am a little concerned about the edges of the 1×6 pulling back from the ply over time. I am using 8d, ring shank gun nails, and will have blocking at the ply ends but I am thinking of glueing the 1×6 as well as nailing it. Should I glue the edges of the boards or will the nails do the trick over the long haul. Opinions?

Boardss that are not flat sawn will have a tendency to cup in one direction. I forget if it is toward the center of the tree, or away from it. Whatever. Find out which way they cup and install the concave side toward the inside, so when they do cup the edges will be forced against the plywood.
If you visualize the growth rings on the end of a board, I think (emphasize think) that they tend to straighten the growth rings, rather than make them more curved.
I think glueing the boards would be a mistake, unles you just ran a bead down the center. I think the ends of the boards should be alloweed to expand and contract.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
