Bond and Fill for Azec trim ?? Anyone ?
Has anyone used Bond and Fill for filling in the screw holes in Azec or similar trim boards ?? How does it look ? Any long term reports ? This is for unpainted white Azec.

I replaced some exterior door pilasters with Azek 1 year ago. I attached with counter sunk decking screws, filled with exterior spackle, and painted with exterior latex paint. Still looks like new. I saw some other messages where Bono had been used as the screw/nail filler..don't know what the results were. I would think that Min Wax wood filler would also work. I've used a lot of it to fill and fix exterior trim.
Jimmie, I haven't used it, but I've used a lot of Bondo with Azek and it works great. We're almost done with a big custom house where all the exterior trim is Azek, including about 16 tapered columns and pilasters. The soffits are 2' wide, all Azek beadboard. We went through buckets of plain old autobody Bondo and it worked great. We got it in 1 gallon cans, and use almost an extra tube of hardener per can.
I've used the Minwax version of Bondo, and it seems to be exactly the same stuff except they color it differently and charge more.
The thing that looks cool about your Bond-and-fill is that it can be used in place of the gloppy Azek glue. Now THAT I would like to find a better way to do.

I hadn't thought aboput using it as a glue! that should be a winer. For bonbdo on nail holes, we usually scuff with 80 grit a little first so it can grip. Otherwise on the smooth slick factoryu finish azek, it can flake off a bit on final finish sanding smooth

I need to replace some exterior corner boards. The Azek corner boards are 5/4. I need to make mine out of 1" (3/4) to fit with the existing roof rake and trim and soffits. I want to join a 1 x 4 to a 1 x 3, which is the dimension of the corner boards that I am replacing. Any experience pre-assembling before installing? I thought about using biscuits to join them. I would like to make a one piece corner board which is approximately 18 feet (2 story colonial house).
Any suggetsions would be appreciated.
Thank You

Bono does woodworking too!!!!!

Azek comes in 3/4" too. You will have to rip to get 1x3s though... You don't need any biscuts. Get the Azek glue, glue some up, and I'll bet you $100 of Mike Smith's money that you can't get them apart. :-)
We just made a bunch of lattice panels with Azek and the new weather-resistant Kreg pocket hole screws. That, with the glue, makes for the strongests lattice frame you've ever seen, and it can be burried right in the crushed stone to keep critters out.
Another tip we found is that Azek's best friend is the trim head screw. Our work is mostly on the ocean so we use stainless steel, but GRK screws would work too. The trim head screws give you great control at assembling joints, are self-tapping so they don't take too long, and they compensate for some of the disadvantages of Azek such as its brittleness and the difficulty you can have setting large-headed nails.

Thank You for the info.
I just bought a bunch of the Bond'n'fill for Fypon railings touch ups. The guys on the crew gave me a report that it is too low viscosity for verticle surfaces, but that otherwise, it worked wel. They normally ignore my advice to wear the nitrile or heqavy latex gloves, but on this item, they went hunting them for a change. We use bondo for the Fypon normally. For Azek, I know the bondo will work, though I haven't done a lot of it.

Jimmie,
I am not painting the Azec, so whatever I use has to be white when cured.
Piffin,
That is the type of info I needed because I am using it on a vertical surface. I will try to call them on Wednesday and see what they say about it.

Azek recommends exterior spackle - I talked to their rep. Prior to doing a similar project to yours, I didn't know that most spackle is exterior. You have to do some re-filling though - spackle shrinks. Not sure about the no-painting thing though... I've used Bondo body putty too - but that was painted too.
All of ours gets painted anyway - 'cept maybe some porch cieling soffits with their beadboard. But If I were doing unpainted I would not fill over nail heads, just hand nail trim head SS rings. I know that whatever - spackle, white bondo, or caulk is all going to yellow or show itself in time.

Right - I feel that Azek's claim of "doesn't need to be painted" is misleading as there is almost always going to be fastener holes that need to be patched. I have never used Azek in a situation where it did not get painted.
OP said that he wasn't going to paint though...
