I have this idea that a contrasting border strip would be a nice design feature in a p-lam floor. But I don’t think it is possible to accomplish.
What I want to do is put a narrow border strip (4-6″) about a foot out and paralel (sp) to the walls in several rooms. Just like what is done commonly with hardwood floors. I would like to use a “slate like” p-lam tile that is about 14″ square for all of the field tiles.
The problem is how do you install a border strip at a specific distance from all walls and still have factory seams to attach everything togather. I dont want to cut the field tiles in the middle of the floor because there is a micro-bevel on the edge of the tiles. I don’t think I could replicate the bevel and I know I couldn’t make the “tongue and grooves” to match the factory ones.
So, did I just dream up an impossible goal or is there some trick I am not aware of. If it was only I room with 4 walls I think I could pull it off, but going into a second room would screw up the layout due to the factory seams.
any ideas?

Hi. I've done a couple floors using Wilsonart 14"sq. tiles with a 'slate' type of appearance. I was able to get a bordered look by using a contrasting color for the next-to-wall cut pieces and also the first full piece row away from the wall. Obviously, all the joints have to have factory tongue/groove, to maintain the integrity of the installation. I am not aware of the availability of 'border' sized pieces (i.e. 6" x 14" and 6" x 6") or cutting tools for aftermarket working of the laminate edges. Perhaps someone here can add more insight to this. Good luck.

My dw did a google search and all she found was some type of stick on decal. ( I suggested lots of bumper stickers. not amused)
How about paint & decals.
