I went to Home Depot to buy a new jigsaw. I was all set to buy a Dewalt because I read good things about it. On the shelf next to the Dewalt was a new model by Bosch. It had more power and lots of bells and whistles. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the new Bosch.

I have the old bosch, that replaced a POS Skil jigsaw. It is unbelievably nice, super well balanced, gobs of power and pretty easy blade change. adjusting the shoe with an allen key is a bit of a pain, and with the new bosch, you get a better blade change mechanism, more power and tooless shoe adjustment.
My only gripe is they made it one year after I bought mine!
Oh. my other complaint, is that it has a lame plastic case and it is quite hard to get the cord into the kit box!
The new model has 6.8amps, you pull a lever to angle the shoe and it has a button on the front that pops the blade out when you want to change it. It sells for $169 and this week is the first time I've ever seen it on the shelf. Are we talking about the same saw?
yep, that is the new and improved model to the bosch I have (i own the 1587), I still love mine though! you cant go wrong with either and there is bound to be screaming deals on the 1587s soon!

they have metal cases or learn how to wind a cord...

The new Bosch is a 1590; the older model is the 1587, which has been the standard for jigs saws for years. It is still available.
If you want to look at the current state of the art, check out the Trion Jig Saw on the Festool site:
http://www.festool-usa.com/
This is generally conceded to be the best jig saw in the market right now, but it is about $100 more than the Bosch.
I quickly checked out the website you referred to...too rich for my blood. My present jigsaw is a Bosch that I've had for about 15yrs. (you need a screwdriver to change the blade) The reason I was going for the Dewalt is when I read a tool review in Fine Homebuilding it seems Dewalt products always offer a little bit more for the money. That new Bosch looks like a Rolls Royce compared to all the other saws. I guess it's too new a model for anyone to have any opinions.
Re: Bosch 1590Over at Knots, the only criticism I have seen is that the blower doesn't do as good a job as it should clearing the sawdust away from the blade as you cut. Others felt it did fine in this regard. Lots of criticism of the Dewalt over there. For the long term, I think you'd be happier with either of the Bosch models.
i have the old bosch barrel jig saw... i think it's the 1582.. as they said ... it was the standard of the industry..
went looking for a new one and wound up with the 18 v. bosch ..no cord..
i like it even better than my old one ...
and no cord
if you need a battery charger .. get the bosch one that comes witha cd player and radio....Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Only thing I know is that you can't use a Collins Coping foot on the new model. Maybe that's changed in the last coupla months, I don't know, but it's something to consider if you use the saw to cope with.
nick.. i put the collins on my old bosh 1582.. and i can put it on hte 18 volt.. if i modify the anti-splinter nose..
collins says to shim the nose if the blade holder travel stikes the noseMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
I talked to him in Providence and he said it wouldn't fit at that time. Maybe he figured out a way to alter it so it would. I wouldn't mind getting the new corded model if the coping foot fit (or just keep the old one?), although the cordless sounds tempting. But I don't currently have any Bosch cordless tools, which would really mean shifting tool sets, which isn't in the budget for the forseeable future (tuition, etc.)
Thanks for the info.
I never met a tool I didn't like!
My company jigsaw is a 1587, I really like it. This evening I was comparing the two in Lowes. I'm gonna buy it. It's got more then any other jigsaw offered. I look at it this way. I don't see it burning out for years so I might as well have the one that offers the most and has a solid reputation. It seems like a lot but if you consider the longevity it's actualy a pretty good bargain.
Who Dares Wins.
HO herehave the 1590nice little sawdon't like the antimar foot attach, doesn';t stay onlove the saw, cuts sweetfits in the case with yhe blade in (my old saw didn't)I have ti futz with the cord to get it in too_____________________________

Where did you hear good things about the Dewalt? I have alot of dewalt(including their cordless jigsaw) and I must say the blade angle is terrible. Its at least 7deg. off center. I would say if you like to mess with peoples heads buy the dewalt and watch anybody try to cut a straight line with it. With out having used the Bosch I have to imagine at least the blade is straight.
I bought the Bosch four years ago at HD. In the store I saw the DW cordless. In the parking lot I got to thinking that I really wanted the cordless capability. I went back into the store and made the change.
The battery on the DeWalt wouldn't push the saw for more than a few minutes. In three months it was dead. I continued to use other DeWalt batteries in the device.
The blade always falls out once or twice before I get a job done.
The blade angle stinks.
The little plastic blade thing obscures the cut line.
The saw is heavy, considering the amount of work it can put out.
I wish I had bought the Bosch.Les Barrett Quality Construction
Evergreen,
We just did a review of the new Bosch D-handled jigsaw for tools and materials (hasn't shipped out yet) - overall it looks like a really nice saw and it cut very well for me. I didn't concern myself too much with the blower so I can't help you out there, but the quick blade changes and the way the roller clamps lock the blade in from both sides and the back really make for a nice tight control on the cut. The baseplate is easily adjustable and also locks into place at 90 degrees to the blade excellently. It's pricey, but a very nice saw - I have an older dewalt model and I don't know what the newer dewalts are going for - but I would say you would be very happy with this new bosch if you chose to buy.

Beware the dewalt. I read good things too. So, I picked one up at the lumber yard where I had an account. It had horrible blade run out so I returned it. Had to be something wrong. Next one was the same. Called Dealt customer service and asked. I was told " some just do that. return it and we'll make sure you get a new one"
Sorry Dewalt, got the Bosch.
Bosch actually has two new models - 1590 and 1591. The 1591 is the barrel model (no handle, you just drive it holding onto the motor). Just replaced my POS Skill with the 1591 and love it. I'd never used a barrel handle but on advice of the good folks at Knots I took the leap, and will never go back - the added control and comfort are remarkable. I've had no issue with the dust blower - quite powerful.
When I called Dewalt they said they havent had any complaints about the blade on the jigsaw. I've had the saw into the service center twice, they cant fix it. While I was there the manager told me if I wanted he'd give me a new one.......the blade on the new one was further out of alignment than mine.
The new Bosch looks almost as good as my Festool ;~)
The DeWalt is junk, next to impossible cut a staight line and I had the blade pop out more than once.

I have the newest DW and it totolly sux!!! the blade never stays in...even with the blower thats supposed to have dust blow away from you still blows in my face.
I'll sell it to you for half price so I can buy a Bosch.
Be well

It is a GREAT saw but the Collins Coping Foot will NOT fit on the #1590 or the #1591. Very unfortunate.
hard to believe any body said something good about a dewalt from the heart......
Go with the Bosch....
