Has anyone noticed that one of the “Craftsman Professional” routers looks exactly like the Bosch 1617EVSPK? The Craftsman router is red everywhere the Bosch is blue, and I know that Skil manufactures the Craftsman wormdrive saw.
Normally I would buy the Bosch without even thinking twice, but I have Sears gift cards. Can anyone think of any downsides to buying the Craftsman over the Bosch? Both routers have 1 year warranties, but could the manufacturing specs be different?

One of the mags did a report on routers recently and commented that they are the same.
However, you need to check what coems with it. Things like cases, edge guides, etc might be different from one to the other.
they are..
Sears does that to kep you coming back for their stuff...

What was the difference in price?

literally $0.99 difference in price (with the imitation Bosch being the more expensive)
That's for the people who think they get a better deal when they don't buy the cheapest thing.

Im looking at the Bosch router too.Its on sale at Tool crib -$194 inc. template guides/centering cone and edge guide.Read the reviews and all loved it... but....everyone had to replace the switch on theirs. Anyone here have the same problem? Ill ask in Knots too.
My housmate just bought that router, his co-worker had to replace the switch on his as well. However, i think i heard somwhere(hmm.. sounds like a reliable souce.. some guy on the www thinks he might have heard somwhere) that the switch problem has been solved.. not absolutely certain though______________________________________________

I replaced the switches on all my Bosch routers. Had one fail..then another got twitchy...so I replaced them all with toggles.
Original switch wasn't sealed well, sawdust gets in and dirties the contacts.
Yes, the switch went out on my Bosh the second day I had it. Lowes replaced it, no questions asked.
I just bought the same router (Bosch version)- came with two bases, case, an edge guide, and a few templates for $194. I've been waiting for a while, and that's the best deal I could find. I sure hope I didn't buy a Sears in disguise........
Mike,
Even if you did, Bosch is a great router.

I'm late to the thread here, but I have the Bosch router kit that included two bases, o(one plunge and one fixed) and a variety of othr cool kit, and I am very pleased. I had a Ryobi 3hp plunge router before it, circa 1993 or so, and gave it to a friend who borrowed it so much I never saw it.
Of course, the Bosch runs rings around the Ryobi. If given the choice between Bosch and Sears......;)
Maybe you canuse the gift cards for things like floor mats or socket sets or wrenches?
