Considering getting either the Bosch saw or the Fein Multimaster. The Fein costs twice as much … is it that much better. I don’t have a specific need right now, but they look very handy and I probably could have used them several times if they had been available.
I’m sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.

Ed ,
I dont have either of them buttttttt If I were to buy one it would be the fein the single speed not the vs. Even the fein rep at a w/w show he told me to get the single speed.
Ron, I am constantly amazed by your absolute ignorance and your ability to bring any thread straight into the toilet.
.
ron, welcome back.
I have the var speed and just yesterday dialed it down to start a precise cut with the e-blade. Much easier and accurate than going full bore from the beginning. My opinion of reps opinions hovers on the verge of .......well, how often do you use it? How much more is the one from the other?
ed, does bosch have something like it, or are you talking that straight long flat blade recip type saw that you can put in a mitre accessory? If the latter, I have used the bosch and there's no comparison with the utility of the fein. Money well spent to do a good job eventho the pcs/parts are way too high dollar.

I have the Fein. It was bought for one job and it worked excellent at flush cutting the corners where the toe kick saw could not reach. I sold the toe kick saw but kept the Multimaster.
Thanks for reminding me I own it.
Ed-
I've got the Fein; a friend's got the Bosch. I've used both.
If you are going to use either just for sawing, the Bosch will be fine.
However, the Multi-Master will do a heck of a lot more than the Bosch, so, while being more expensive initially, I think it ends up cheaper in the long run.
Ed, I'm assuming you mean the Bosch 1640. I have the Bosch and a friend that I'm working with has the Fein. The Bosch is really just a saw with an offset blade good for cutting door jambs and the like and you can get an optional miter table for cutting small trim. The Fein does not work in a back and forth sawing motion so if you are doing any cutting, it has a tendency to burn the end grain especially with hardwood. I think the Fein gives you a much cleaner cut and would is more accurate and easier to use. The Fein comes with many more attachments that can do a lot more, that's probably why the difference in the cost. If I were doing it again I would go with the Fein, it's much more versatile. -Ed
I just got the Fein kit..how cool it is! It is (and I am a huge Bosch supporter) a very adaptable tool, and if you ever need to do some blind flush cutting, it's the way to go.

Fein variable speed.
nuf said........well,I can't resist,
Probably one of the best tools for remodeling ever invented
The variable speed is, I believe a needed asset, esp. for
accurate cuts, you can start out on low speed to get your
kerf started(It has a tendency to jump around a little on
high speed) than increase your speed.
The blades are very pricey and they don't last long at all
even if you try to sharpen them, and I've had some success
doing that. Also if you get one and you need blades
there is a guy on ebay that sells them for less money
and they are a better quality than the manufacturer.
would somebody post a link so I'd know what you guys are talking about?

sorry boss, but that bosch sucked imo.

yeah, but its fun to make you say it again
THAT wsa funny!
But in this case the Fein is much more adaptable, and even in saw mode it does things the Bosch can't dream of, and they are really USEFUL things!Jake Gulick
