While looking around on a few toll websites up here in Canada I came across a couple rotary hammers on sale One was a Makita #HR240F at $200 while the other was a Bosch #11255VSR at $299. The Makita is a 15/16″ while the Bosch is a 1″ tool. No big difference really IMO. The company selling the Bosch is offering free shipping on Bosch tools while the company selling the Makita is charging for shipping obviously.
My question is simply this: what tool would you guys buy in this case? Sure one is cheaper but that doesn’t always make it best. The Makita has a pistol grip while the Bosch has a D-handle design. My opinion is that the D-handle is better when drilling in vertical applications. Am I correct in assuming this? I looked at both tools on their websites and both are really good tools.

Guys it does say on the Bosch page that it’s the fastest rotary hammer available. Do you think it’s worth the extra money?

Now Makita does have a 1″ rotary hammer with a D-handle design but I’m asking about the 15/16″ model by Makita as it was on sale for $200.

Paul,
I've used the bulldog and while it's handy, don't like it due to ergonomics. (in the US it's 230). I'm gonna get the milwaukee one for 299...in canuck dollars, prolly around 500. ;)
I've used both Makita and Bosch tools in general and am a fan of both. For a roto I bought the Bosch 11245EVS and love it!
