Hello All –
I was in Loew’s today and saw two Stanley Bostich Compressor Combos for sale. Both were the same compressor, just one had an extra gun. Price was IIRC $199 with a stapler and pinner; and $299 if there was also a finish nailer.
Any opinions on the compressors themselves? I’m thinking Stanley is a brand name and shouldn’t be too bad – but who knows? I don’t recall seeing discussion of this before on the Stanley compressor. If this horse was already beaten, I apologize.

Alot of guys around here use Bostitch compressors and guns. I've never had any so I don't have an opinion(on that anyway).

I've seen plenty of the Bostich guns, just never noticed the compressors before.
The guys that work with me typically use Porter Cables and Dewalt. (One had another brand that I can't even remember any more.) Two of them even like Sears compressors.

I've had a Stanley-Bostich, oiless, pancake compressor for almost 20 years and it's still going strong. On several jobs, I've used it run an air chisel to break stucco around windows and doors and even the long periods of near-continuous operation don't seem to have hurt it any.

Thanks for the testimonial. Your comment about using it for 20 years makes me wonder how I could have missed them this long - although granted I was in a different line of work for some of that time.

One thing you'll find about the combo kit compressors at Lowes is that they are all oil-less, meaning they'll be louder and not last as long compared to a similarly sized oil-lube model.Oil-less could be a benefit if you run them in the extreme cold or on rooftops at an angle.The Porter Cable twin-stack Oil-lube model that I have has some sort of special oil-scoop that'll allow it to lubricate the motor even if the compressor is not level.I'd say that for the oil-less models - it probably doesn't matter which one you buy... They are all around $129-$220 and probably similar quality. The Oil-lube start at $275 and up and you probably will see greater quality diffs between those models as they are generally built to be better.Had no problems with my Porter Cable twin-stack. Had a buddy whoose Bostich regulator went crap on a new compressor and I have the Trim-air and the regulator went out on that as well as the dial screws have come out, so my firsthand knowledge of the Bostich's doesn't relfect that well.But if you find a combo kit you like then buy whichever one has the best package.Or, taker a chance and pick up the cool aluminum Ridgid twin-stack oil-lube which weighs like 50 lbs, and I think they had a $5o mail in rebate very recently possibly currently.JT
So I see you have finally moved to gawds country.
Hi there;
Was thinking about you this week.
Actually we moved out January 16, came down here for about a week and then I ran back up to lay out and work on a bathroom that had not gotten finished before I left. The back and forth trips got to be a problem because we had two deaths in the family, one down here and one up there, both within about 3 weeks of each other.
Last week, I told my assistant to finish the tile and boogied back down. Hotel bills were starting to hurt. I've been trying to get set up at least a little, but it's slower than I wanted. We haven't even unpacked a third of the boxes that we brought.
Among other things, I'm trying to figure out what to do for a garden, how to landscape the back yard, where to put the sun porch and how to insulate this 130 year old house. (We went through a tank of propane in a little over two weeks!) I'm trying to turn a city girl wife into a country girl and that's a challenge all it's own. I've got a nice store building out front that's screaming it wants to become a shop, but it's so full that I have no place to put my tools - even though the big stuff is still up north. There's lots more too. LOL.
God's country? It has potential, but needs work. So, when you coming over for a drink?
