I have some Bostich guns and they are very good.

nothing wrong with either. I always avoided ridgid because of their association with home depot. then I had to buy one in a pinch. gotta say I like it.
ridgid guns dont dry fire if the magazine is empty. nice feature
My bostitch 2 1/2" 16ga straight finish gun doesnt shoot if the magazine is empty. That plus a brad gun for 169 is a good price.Personally, I would never buy Rigid.
Both Bostitch and Ridgid are good brands for air tools these days. You often won't get the top of the line in those packs though.
For instance, you mentioned a 1 1/4" brad nailer. Hitachi and bostich both make 2" brad nailers, which are more versatile and powerful. If you're going to be using it a lot, I would think about whether you want that feature.
Also worth mentioning, I prefer a setup of a 15 gauge and 18 guage. The 15 has more holding power than the 16 for 1x baseboard, 5/4 head casing, stuff like that.

Sure, but I don't think they'll work very good for hanging paper
