Has anyone bought the Bostitch StrapShot hanger nailer yet? I saw one at Lowe’s this morning for $219. Seems like a good price, but I’m worried it may be a piece of junk. Is it worth buying? I can’t find them at amazon so I don’t know if that’s a good price or not.
Thanks

I was playing with one just this morning. $220 at my (not so) local tool store. I'm buying one as soon as I use up the nails for the one I have now. That little honey ain't much bigger than a decent 15 ga finish nailer. I fired it in the store too... seemed to have plenty of oomph for the 1 1/2" nails.
I was impressed with the size of it too, but I'm just not sure how it'll hold up. I haven't had much luck with Bostitch nail guns. I already have a couple collecting dust as it is. For the price though, it is very tempting. I was hoping to find it at amazon and save myself the sales tax. I should look elsewhere I guess.
[Edit] The only place I could find it online was toolking.com- $269.99. I might just go ahead and pick one up at Lowe's tomorrow. I'm gonna have to join a 12 step program to break my tool addiction.

Are you abandoning the Hitachi, or another brand?
I currently have the Bostich framing nailer with the nose piece you can swap out for hardware. We've never used it for framing nails, it's just been dedicated to hardware since day one.
It has seen a ton of use and is starting to have problems... one of which is the tip being worn down so it's hard to 'feel' the holes in the hardware with out getting your mug right up in there. So lots of misses and lots of ricochets. It's been double-firing and jamming more frequently too. That new little sucker will be great since so much of it's work is overhead.... seems like it'll really get in tight spaces and get the job done.View Image
Is this the nailer made specifically for nailing up joist hangers and the sort?
THe nail protrudes from the tip so you can find the hole.... great idea, I just don't so that much with hangers.... although after a recent day of hand-nailing a few dozen tie downs with 10 nails each.... maybe I do need one.

Joe H has one for sale IIRC.

Ya, it's for Strapping, Joist Hangers, Hurricane Ties, Rafter Ties/Connectors, Post Bases and Caps, Anchors. I think it would pay for itself after a few jobs.
The description says it drives code recognized 1-1/2" STRAPSHOTâ„¢ fasteners as well as all other paper tape collated metal connector nails (.131 - .148 diameter). So... Dieselpig might not have to wait till he runs out of nails for his other gun ;)

I have some nails for my Hitachi that I believe also work in the Bostitch. 15 degree paper collated, 1-1/2" and 2-1/2" by .148.
Nah, we checked. The plastic collated nails for my old Bostich hardware nailer won't fit the new gun... paper collated only.View Image
I couldn't help myself this moring, I had to get it. $240 with tax. I don't know about the other guns, but this one only handles 1 1/2" nails. That could be a draw back. I usually use 8 or 10d when I toenail through the hanger into the joists and into the ledger. I guess 1 1/2" will have to do??

If you are trying to install a wide variety of Simpson hardware to specs there are at least a few that require the 2-1/2" nails. I have never had an inspector pull one out to see, but I suppose they could ask you to show them the box.
That's kinda what I was thinking about. I just looked at the manual and it shows a model mcn150 and mcn250. The mcn250 shoots 1.5 to 2.5, I guess that's the one to get if you're going to get one. I don't see the point of making a model just for shooting 1.5 when you're making one that shoots both sizes. I've yet to see the mcn250 anywhere. May have to take this one back and wait till the other becomes available.
I got my Hitachi brand-new from a pawn shop online. It was complete in the box with warranty and whatever, so I don't think it was stolen from a job. Shoots both sizes. $200. That's my third nail I gun bought used online from either a pawn shop or eBay.
In all the years I've been online, I've never bought anything used, on ebay or anywhere else. No particular reason, I guess I just find it easier to buy new.
However, a friend just gave me her old lawn tractor and it needs a starter but I hate to buy a new one because something else may be wrong with the mower. Can't find a used one locally. I may have to go to ebay for that one.

If I can find a pulley, I might give it a try. It's been sitting for a few years, may take a lot of pulling.
