Anyone,
Ever heard of hanging bottles inside partition walls between two layers of insulation, or is this just a Vermont excentricity? I found three rows of six bottles each hanging inside a wall I was tearing down. At first I thought it was some kind of satanic curse left by the last construction crew while rebuilding after a fire.(666- remember the Omen) Any thoughts?

Yep,
It became so popular someone wrote a song about it. Ten green bottles hanging "in" a wall.

*Someone else posted not long ago about bottles in the wall. Here is the address:http://www.taunton.com/cgi-bin/WebX?128@@.ee74a69Rich Beckman

Given that they were hanging in a partition wall between a bathroom and bedroom, in addition to the insulation, are they supposed to dissipate sound?
*Rich, Thanks for the address! That answered alot of questions. Dave

The questions are:
What sort of bottles?
What did they contain?
Do they still contain it?
Is it still good? If it is old beer it is bad. If it is old whiskey it is good. If it is old wine it may be good or bad depending on the conditions. If it is toxic waste, beware.
We can assume that these are not antiques since they were in an insulated wall.

Beer (empty- Michelob-yuk), Coke (sticky), Pepto Bismol,(don't ask).
Yeah, they were all empty. And from the products represented, nothing of real value, and apparently all fairly recent vintage. No wine either.

Dave,
If you suspect for any reason whatsoever that this is could be considered "Toxic Waste", DON'T touch it!!!!
The governments' SuperFund will suffer if you take it upon yourself to clean it up!!!
The funding to clean that mess up is available. Should "scabs" step in to do the deed, that is all the less that will be appropriated from Congress next year. There are no carryovers if they don't spend their budget in the current year. Call the EPA and have it properly administered.
BTW, did any of those containers have a General Electric trademark?
*Pint Liquor bottles, at least 50 years old, left them with the owner, mistake, probably recycled. No wonder the plaster work really sucks.
*J.D., man, where the hell you been? I was just today thinkin' I should e mail you or something! (ah, but then I'd have to figure out how to send one) How's the new job treatin' you? - yb
