I am looking for a door to my walk-in shower. The opening is 28″. I am looking for a hinged door or one that pivots on a pin. Anyone familiar with the Kohler doors from HD? Is it worth the additional $300-400 to get one from the local custom shower door place?

I installed a Kohler door a few years ago and was happy with the product. If you stay away from the 1/2 and 3/4 thick glass the prices are OK on custom semi frameless. I have a 3/8 enclosure and it's fine.
ADDITIONAL???!!!
My custom guy has never charged me more than $375 and that is installed.

a custom shower door installed for $375?
Glass, right? Not cardboard? The custom doors that are common on my projects usually run around $1,000 and up. Vic
Frameless, right? I think he's talking framed.
Frameless. I guess I answered the original question in my own mind, that being, why go custom if it's framed. Vic
Yes framed, this guy's frameless run up around 7-750

I just paid a grand for a neo angle installed
375? lucky day!
Dunno what brands you can get but Holcam and Agalite are common here and a kit for a 4' opening (door plus panel, everything framed) will run me about $350 in clear glass + chrome. Add about $75 for an unframed 1/4" door. Install takes maybe 3-4 hours. I would charge $800+ to provide one installed. I get them from either a plumbing wholesaler or a glass shop but I know the box stores here sell equivalent items.
To answer your question Kohler doors are good doors, as far as custom it depends what your looking for. Things like glass finish or pattern, odd size to work nice, minimum metal trim etc.
Bought a kohler special order from HD when I built the master. Around $500.00 then, decent door, had to replace a little hidden hinge mount this year, but no biggie.
