I am in the process of applying for a historical permit to construct an exposed aggregate concrete driveway at an old 3 story brick home that is 5200 sq. ft. The concrete drive will enter a backyard that is elevated approximately 11″ above the sidewalk grade at the street and has a concrete retainer wall with a mitered top to hold back the earth from the walk. We will have to cut out a section of this wall to build the driveway and the historical commision wants the driveway to be screened from public view by a fence. This would be an opportune time to build brick columns on each side of the driveway entrance to hold wrought iron driveway gates. There will be a wood privacy fence built around the yard. The driveway will be 10′ wide. What brick column dimensions would look the best for this size house? I am drawing the plans myself.
Thanks,
Stan
