I recently broke my wrist and had to have surgery to repair it. I was wondering if anyone else here has ever broken their wrist? How did it heal? How long until you could hammer again? When did you get your strenghth back? Did you have trouble getting money out of L&I? And anything else you have to say on the subject.

Broke it rushing to get done for a floor guy that didn't show for a week. Lucky him it was broke when he did show.
Seriously, had a fracture (no bones sticking out) a couple years ago. Was near done trimming out a house. As soon as it was in a cast, bout 5 days for the swelling to go down, I was back at it. Think I worked with a wrist guard a cpl days later. You'll get used to using the cast as a persuader. It was my right, so all I lost was the ability to use it in any gripping fashion. Not enuff room between the cast and the finger to use it on any controls. Tho most things I do are with the right hand, using the left to write and eat has given me a slight ambidextrous nature. Nail gun, minor hammer, and using saws and such was no problem with the left. Table saw usage, lifting and carrying were a little hard to get used to.
After 6 weeks, it came off and the doc asked me what I had been doing with it. Mumbled something about just a little tapping etc. He knew sure nuff I was using it as much as possible as there was no loss in size or muscle. Healed well, didn't get chided by him. Don't take that as a recommendation to use it too much.
Insurance covered the office visit, cast, temp wrist guard. Used the sunday paper plastic bag to cover it when showering. Hardest part to get used to was using the left for sanitary things. Best of luck.
