My vinyl window order came in today. The nail flange corners on 11 windows were broken on the top flange. Unfortunately, my salesman is on vacation for 2 more days so I haven’t been able to discuss this with him yet. I am worried that I won’t be able to properly flash and seal these corners from water infiltration into the wall. Should I make the manufacturer replace the broken flanges or is this no big deal? It seems that it would be easier to make water resistant with intact corners. I am an owner builder and this is my first house.

Did you report the damage immediately upon rec. the windows? Did they come from the yard or the window manufacturer?
First answer, sure it's a big deal. You ordered new windows in good condition. Hope the rest of the care the co. uses in building them is better. If you have the time, get new replacements.
Second answer, if you have a time constraint, you be the judge. If you think there is no chance it compromises the seal or you can do an on site repair, have at it. Just demand at the very least that the window co. eat a large portion of the original cost. If they do the repair (not new window) still demand a cost adjustment.
Best of luck
*Yes. I noted it on the receipt when I signed it and I called the lumber yard I ordered them through. The window salesman is gone for another day. Since I'm a one man crew I have no time contstraints so it looks like I'll be fussing at the dealer to have them fixed. I'm paying $6,000. for the windows so it seems like they should deliver them in good condition so I don't have to futz with special flashing. Thanks for the input.
*I'm surprised the yard is waiting to talk to the rep. Shoot, have 'em call the manufacturer and be quick about it. Time is money and the house needs finished. Let's go!And remember to commend them when they done good. I'm known as a demanding guy by all I deal with. Also known as one that pays on time, doesn't pull that shop around shit to save a penny, and who will pull his own material instead of whining about the wane and hook. Fair and demanding and willing to come to a mutual understanding. You be the customer and the good customer is always right. Better Luck.
