i have been offered 1/4″ bubblewrap (in rolls of 30 yards) with foil coating on both sides, OR
polyiso 8’*4′ 1 inch thick also with foil on both sides. i’m using these under PEX tubing for RFH. the price difference is about 10% extra for the polyiso per square yard. which would be the best taking into account the r-value and the price, and also the ease of installation.

Eddie: see the "ENERGY (Radiant Floor Heating)" post in this same Energy Folder. Mongo and I have commented on the foil/bubble wrap stuff there. Is this for between floor or under a slab? Under a slab, definitely go with polyiso. Between floors it would be a toss up to me. If the installers will take the time to make the polyiso fit tightly, I'd go that way for similar effective R-value with better sound deadening. -David
*I'm in with David. If you rip the polyiso panels into widths slightly wider than the joist spacing, you can friction fit them between the joists and they'll be locked into place forever. The polyiso will give a very tight fir, better R-value, and it has a better foil face.Even with a dry staple-up, I'd opt for polyiso.
*Mongo and DavidI don't want to disrupt Eddie's thread here, but if you guys could respond to my post "insulating under a pier and beam..." I would be greatly appreciative.Keith
