Hey,
Ive been lookin all over the internet and in book stores, tryin to find a good source on construction schedules for single family houses and I cant find anything thats credible.
Do you guys know a good source that describes the necessary labor hours for all the trades involved while building a house?

Zack, the variables involved in scheduling are endless, but this and other books like it will get you in the ballpark:

Just curious, are you builder or home buyer?

Im currently on my way to becoming a builder. Right now im in my first year of a carpentry apprenticeship. But im really interested in working for my self, so im trying to get educated on the ins and outs of construction business.
...........just a quick comment. The fact that you are attempting to gain knowledge is good for you!
Just don't think that you can substitute field experience for reading a book.
Reading about and doing somethings are worlds apart.
Good luck in your career.

Great advice, the apprenticeship im in is set up exactly that way, where I will get thousands of hours learning and actually doing, framing, finish work, welding, form building, layout, etc.
But while Im doing that, it can only help me down the road to become familiar with how things work on the scheduling/planing/estimating side of construction. So that when the time comes for me to do that for the first time, it wont be completely foreign.
Thanks again for the advice,
Zach

Hi Ron, I've been lurking some but it's been a very busy month or two. Got engaged, bought a house, got a new job, under contract on a rental property.... The last week we've been painting the new house in the evenings to get ready to move in to this week. Worked there 14 hours today, just got home at 11 pm.
Nice to hear somebody missed me though....

Two good titles for the business end are "the complete guide to contracting you home" and "running a successful construction company", the latter can be ordered here from Taunton.
I'm 22 and currently run a framing and exterior remodeling company. With only about 4 years of hands on training & experience, I had to resort to books to help me understand everything I needed to know (most of them are Taunton's too!). Lemme tell ya though, go ahead and invite Mr. Murphy over for a cold one, cuz he'll come a knockin over and over!

Sorry for the lame question, but whos Mr Murphy?
He makes the law we all live by.
Mr. Murphy wrote the undisputed law of physics named after him, that being that if something can go wrong then it will.
