on the second floor of our house. I am redoing a bedroom and moving a closet from one side of the room to the other. It is a non-loading wall, parallel with the floor and ceiling joists. There is existing wood flooring where I want to place the wall.
Do I have to remove a strip of flooring so I can place the wall on the subfloor or can I nail the wall directly to the wood floor?
I don’t think the wall is going to rest on one of the floor joists b/c they run parallel with the proposed wall. Is it necessary that the wall sit on more than just the subfloor? Do I have to add blocking between the floor joists, which I really don’t want to do b/c I would have to open up the family room ceiling.
Thanks.

It's only a closet--and there was nothing structural at that location before so there's really no need to beef up anything in the floor or provide nailer...
The way I look at it, somewhere down the road, someone could possibly gut the room again and change things. This way, all they have to do is 'unscrew' the wall, refinish the floor and go.
Thanks.
