Building code vs. Residential Code books

I was looking to buy one of these manuals (2006 International Residential Code and 2006 International Building Code). Is the Building Code book basically the IRC plus some additional code for non-residential, or do the two books cover different subjects?

most states have their code published on the web now in addition to the hard copy
anyways.. you have to knwo what your jurisdiction is operating under..
eg: RI is currently using IRC 2003 with Rhode Island amendments
IRC & IBC are two different books.. some states use one , some the other, some use something completely different
Last time the code office rep simply said that they go by international code, implying no local modifications here in Montana. I'll check in with her again though, thanks for the info.
I have never seen the IBC so I am not sure if there any differences in material for the same areas.
But the IRC also inlcudes parts of the plumbing (IPC), mechanical, electrical, etc codes.
But it does not cover everything that you might find in a house. For example I did a quick look at the 2000 IRC and there was nothing in the index for standby generators or solar electric power.
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
