I”m considering purchasing a small workshop building from Home Depot’s “Classic Manor” buildings. They specialize in the southeast, are based in Atlanta. The customer buys the lumber package, which is delivered on site for free within 50 miles, and Classic Manor arranges for having the project actually built on my slab. Construction is wood. Several of the designs are suitable for finishing with insulation, drywall, electric, etc. and can be used as finished houses. My question is this: Only two of the kits have designed in “enclosed soffits” with eave and ridge vents (named “New Dawning” and “New Day”). Although, they will add on a ridge vent to any building, it seems that if I want to finish the inside I need to stick to the enclosed soffit for proper air flow in the finished roof (using cathedral ceiling foam spacers and 6″ insulation for the roofing). Or, is it not important and I can get by with a design that doesn not incorporate enclosed soffits. Question two, is what is the difference in quality between T1-11 (5/8″)and primed smartside siding (3/8″). Any other comments about the kits would be appreciated.
Thanks,
john

I'm going to guess that this is very close to, if not the same, as the company they use for their sheds. If you can find the manufacturer's web site, as I did for the sheds, they may have the actual installation instructions (which, in the case of the sheds, had the complete list of materials...sizes, number of pieces, and how they go together). It was real easy to take the plans...since I liked the overall look of the shed... make some minor changes in materials and specifics, and in no time at all come up with a shed I really liked.
The 3/8" board they use is OK for a shed....but in NO WAY would I ever want to use it on any building of substance. They usually have shed samples on the HD lot somewhere...go check out the materials yourself. They also tend to use 3/8" materials on the roof.....again, not what I would advise.
I don't know this company but here are a couple more generic comments...
HD has no reputation for quality - only for cheap pricing.
I have, in the course of my life, come along behind several kit type buuildings, hired by the HO to "finish" them. The owenrs were alays disappointed to learn that the work to bring them up to minimal standards and make it possible to begin finishing work was often as expensive as the original purchase.
Ar ethere no real builders in your area?
