We are about to build a small artist’s studio, 16×20 to begin with. We will add on later. I have been unable to find any reference for layouts. Does anyone have any resources they can give me? Thanks, Margaret

Layouts of what ? Not sure what you want.
*If "layouts" are the same as blueprints you may find something adaptable at http://www.grove.net/~noff/ (and then again, you may not). Good luck.
*b WBA At Your ServiceThanks, Steve, pretty nice.
*This site has garage plans for about $10 that might be something to start with.JoeH.http://www.jerpat.com/
*Margaret - I'm building a studio roughly of the proportions you've mentioned, with a workshop below. The studio is turning out to be one large room with built-ins, and decks off either end, one with hot tub, the other as entry. I like the way its turning out.I'd really recommend going through "A Pattern Language" by Christopher Alexander. One of the patterns I used (for the first time) was just walking out and staking it out without using a tape, just for views and sun, then measuring what I had, adding what I thought I needed (not wanted, needed). Admittedly, there is no building dept involved in this, and I find not having plans delightful.Best - Don
*There are a number of plans available for small vacation homes which might be a starting point. Part of the consideration needs to be what type of art work you will be doing. If you will be doing heavy sculpture, you will need a wide door for access. If you are doing painting or photography you will want to pay particular attention to the ambiant light - possibly emphasizing the fabled northern light. Other arts or crafts will dictate some other considerations such as storage areas, counters, large sinks, space for sound proofing an air compressor, etc. My concern would be designing for the addition if you wanted it to look integrated into the original building. You would probably need to have at least a sliding door where you wanted eventual egress into the addition and you might want to design the foundation and framing at that area to easily accomodate the attachment of the addition. You can search the web with a search engine such as Google http://www.google.com/ and enter search terms such as "vacation home plan" or "shop plan" or whateverAs an example, the first site I got on a search was:http://www.coolhouseplans.com/entering a size from 300 to 700 sq ft with one bedroom and bath gave me 12 plans from 477 sq ft. I have seen other similar sites that had plans for smaller cabins that were more plain than these on this site. You may have to search through several sites before you see something that is appealing.
