I have a 5 button commercial (the tall rectangular kind) on my garage side door now for 10+ years and works fine. Was spendy then around $300. I see Schlag (sp) has them out now for entrance doors running around $130. either deadbolt or entry. Will they hold up as well as the commercial locks of yore? Whats been your experience? The wife wants a new lock for the front door.
Thanks
Jim

I've installed a couple of these on interior doors (offices and such) and they seem to hold up pretty well and work as advertised. I like the feature of having more than one valid code -- makes it easier to pass codes out to temporary users.

Thanks, didn't know you could set multiple codes. We will probably get one this spring.

We use Trilogy locks in the branch banks. A little pricey, but reliable.

Installed several over the years. Never had any call backs on them.
I'm not sure I'd put one on a front entry door however. For apearances sake.

I have about 8 of these simplex types installed on doors : basement door, pump house, 5 garage/shed doors, bike box, couple more in other places.
Usualy got them at a now 'dedceased' surplus store for $5-$10 apiece, so naturally had to take a few apart to figure out how to reset combo, etc. after sawing them out of the bent up, scrapped steel doors they were in.
Now for the bad part: a knowledgeable person can open 99% one of these without force in about 5 minutes, the other 1% in 10 minutes! Dont ask me to tell, but it is all on then internet and pretty obvious once you take one apart and develop a 'feel'
Still like the convienience of them for the sheds, etc. Not that many knowledgeable crooks out there apparently.
The 1% that take 10 minutes are those where you set the combo for both double key and half stroke action. The half stroke settings takes you a couple of tries when you are tired or drunk, even knowing the combo <G>
I have not used the residential push-button lock myself. However, I think Schlage is pretty good and I would expect them to hold up as advertised.
By the way--Is that Talisker the whisky? and if so, are you a peaty beast?
Thanks for the info. No more of a "sourdough" 45+ years here in the far frozen north. Just enjoy the fine taste of a good Scotch once in a while.
