Well I’m break down and buy a pinner as I really do need one for doing moldings. I’ve decided on getting a Grex model. Funny thing though, a company up here in Canada is now a dealer for Grex and they are selling Grex’s biggest capacity pinner (3/8″ – 2″ pins) for $332, while the next model down the line in capacity (3/8″ – 1-3/4″) is selling for $300. For an extra $32 I will only be getting an extra 1/4″ of capacity in pin length. I figured why not take that $32 and put it towards an assortment of pin lengths.
Do any of you guys EVER use 2″ pins? I really don’t see the need for it when there’s 1-3/4″ pins. I really don’t see myself putting up crown molding with a pinner when I already have an 18 guage, 2″ air nailer.

I feel the same, 2" is not something I'd be using often enough to justify the purchase, I have the middle one. I have yet to need anything longer than that, just by design of my projects, I am new to pinners and still fabricate as if I never had one.

The most common pins I use are in the range of 7/8" - 1 3/8" and I use a boat load of those sizes.

Just thought I would pass the deal along.

My Senco 23 ga takes up to 1" pins and I sometimes wish I could go to 1.25". IMO, anything longer probably needs a bigger fastener and I get creative with my 18 ga brad gun.
