Buying R22 refrig online

Oak River Mike | Posted in General Discussion on November 3, 2009 01:54am

Has anyone bought it from ebay or other places?  It seems like it would be illegal but not sure as they say you can write an intent letter to make it legit.

apparently it's legal w/ a resale letter or a EPA lic #, I've sold R-12 before on line & thats all that was required.
Since you brought it up I happen to have a Brand new in box 30 LB can of Dupont R-12, If anyone needs.

I would hate to pay the high price and find out it half empty or fill with something else

I use to trust people but I see so many people that screw ppeople on purpose on ebay. A close friend screw me out of $3000. I dont trust no body anymore. Especially on ebay

i have bought 22 on ebay before. everybody says that you have to be licensed or it has to be for resale.

now think about it,i am a legit hvac guy with a license and i'm going to buy on ebay and pay shipping charges across the country, instead of going to my local and picking it up.

so all they are wanting is something to cover there buns with.

so ,when i buy ,i always plan on putting it back on ebay and selling when it gets to 1000. a jug..........................i send them a email that i have bought this to resale to licensed users.

i always buy a new one with seal, never had a problem with getting just what its suppose to be.

another way of getting some is to advertise on cl. i use the car parts, wanted ,materials etc and place a ad looking for r22. sometimes i'll get 0 response ,other times 3 or 4.

    the older i get ,

the more people tick me off

GOOD idea, why did not i try that! -- doggone, paid $130 for a 50# can last time at distributor that has my license on file, need to do the cl thing before another is needed!

i hate to tell ya, but 130 for a 50lb er are days gone by.

you never know on cl though if someone has one sitting around ,they might just sell for that.

i'm not even sure of what its at now, seems like 180 for 30lbs.??????????the older i get ,

the more people tick me off

R22 still less than 410A though.

Gonna build a small WSHP for the shop one of these days when I have time, using salvaged #### scroll and shop built exchangers.

Going to try propane (right out of the fuel canister with a good drier) which I've not done before.  Propane still under 70 cents/pound<G>

Have you ever tried propane on even an experimental basis?  If so, how did it work out?

HUH, why did taunton blank out the mane of a Japanese compressor manuf. ?  Guess it has the --sh**-- word embedded in the name?

If you're buying R-22, you're -at best- only postponing the inevetable, and costing youself money.

R-22 is on the way out. Prices will only go one way: up. That's one expense.

The other expense is less obvious. That is, your equipment is old, worn, and inefficient. You power bill is therefore much higher than it could be.

Let me give you an example: A customer of mine had aquired a pair of R-22 condensers for his walk-in cooler. There were some problems that led to his having to get a single new condenser, using a new refrigerant. The end result? The power used to cool the beer was nearly cut in half. We're talking of a savings of $30-50 every month.

To the tune of the old Sinclair Nickel additive to gasoline - only old foggies remember it?

      Propane is the reason why

Propane is the one to buy,

'case only Dee eye wye systems

      Have propane, propane, propane

      <G>, loved that jingle........
