Hey folks,
Any good sources for buying some of the more unique Simpson hangers and connectors on-line? My local yards keeping dropping the ball on getting them for me as I just need two or three of the skewed angle ones or so at a time and they batch order so it takes weeks. The big boxes will order but they take too long as well.
You can’t order directly from Simpson but does anyone know of an online source?
Thanks

I would call Simpson, find out who the rep is in your area, call that person and ask who stocks the most complete line and will sell to contractors. You can probably find a place that ships UPS. You may have to order by phone rather than online. There is such a place up here... about as far from Florida as one could be... but they do it.
Thanks David,
I sent Simpson an email inquiry and will probably call on Monday to find out. Makes sense as maybe their local rep can suggest the best dealer?
Thanks
Mike
Simpson will ship even ONE item to a dealer, same day, UPS. Find a dealer that is not so lazy.
Happy Great Turkey (or Turducken) Day!
Edit: Forgot to add that IMHO Simpson sets the standard for customer service.

nazard,
Thanks! Yeah, I know the company itself is great...Just trying to find a middle man that is too!
Happy Turducken Day to you as well.

Mike,
What the heck kind of lumberyard are you dealing with that would take weeks to even get one skewed hanger?
Any real lumberyard takes 1-2 days no matter what the hanger is. I've never heard of this before. How many lumberyards have you asked?
>> I just need two or three of the skewed angle ones or so at a time <<
What do you mean by this? Can't you just order every hanger that you need all at once? Are you doing a big remodeling project that taking a while to frame and your not sure of what you need until you get to a certain point?
Joe,
Yeah, my two local yards both will not order just one or two hangers. They "say" they will but I know they batch order to save shipping costs. They then blame Simpson saying they had them backordered or some crap like that.
And like was mentioned, going there during work hours is a bit of a pain, hence my desire to order on-line.
Mike
If they're just simple skewed 45° hangers, you might try a truss plant. We generally have some of those in stock.

I just ordeered a simpson beam hangar from a local Home Depot. Took a week.
Your local lumberyard couldn't get it in a couple days?Joe Carola
Joe, some of us deal with some really crappy lumberyards. Six different yards compete for the biz in my town, and all but one can be counted on to screw up a special order for just about anything.

Some smaller lumberyards don't stock certain size I-joists and microlams. The bigger lumberyards stock everything. The smaller lumberyard I use will stock 2-1/2" I-joists up to a certain length. Microlams they stock up to 11-7/8". Anything above that has to be ordered and takes 2 days. The bigger lumberyards stock just about any size I-joists and any size microlams. I'm framing my friend’s addition right now and one beam was 5-1/2' x 14" x 24' and the other was 5-1/2" x 14" x 28'. When I ordered them, they had that size beam in stock but were out of the lengths that I needed. But they normally stock that size. The other two beams I needed were 3-1/2" x 14" x 24' and those were in stock. The two valleys I needed were 3-1/2" x 11-7/8" x 16' and they were in stock. The only thing was that the pitch on the roof was 7.5/12 and when I lifted the first of the two valleys in place I realized as I was setting the valley in place about 2" away from the ridge that I held my framing square at 7.5/12 instead of 7.5/17..............After cursing and calling myself every name in the book,. I had to go and buy 2 new beams............and they were in stock.....;-)

Joe-
I think we've been spoiled with Huston's inventory and service.
Ouch. Been there and it hurts just thinking about it. Will your yard let you return those goof-ups as 14'ers or 12'ers?View Image
no, not unless you want to pay extra for faster delivery. Besides, I wouldn't buy one piece like that from them anyway, because I'd have to go there during working hours, to pick it up. Something I'd rather not do. Unless they could put it on a delivery with something else.
I can hit Home depot in the evenings, including sunday, for supplies.

Would you pay for faster delivery and go pick it up and get the job done or would you wait a week and hold the job up?Joe Carola
C'mon, every REAL lumberyard can't get every piece of hardware offered in 1-2-days!
Last time I asked about sloped seat hangars, they had to ordered way in advance.
I've special ordered them through Home Depot before. I needed particular manufacture-specified LVL-to-I-Joist hangers. Home Depot didn't stock them but they ordered them. I got them within 24-36 hours if I remember correctly. Keep in mind, though, I'm in the Atlanta market and they came out of Alabama.
