After 20yrs of being a cabinetmaker and custom woodworker I’m changing careers. I will be installing prefab kitchen cabinet and I will be working alone. Do anyone know of a tool for lifting and holding cabinets in place until they can be fastened down.

T-Jak from the Tool Crib of the North may help you some, but doesn't do all you're asking for. Bill Swales
*There's a hoist called Gil lift [pretty sure thats the name] made just for what your doing. Your supposed to be able to screw a few wall cabinets together on the floor and lift them all as a unit. It also has casters and I think will fit through a 2' door. Sorry I cant remember who sells it offhand, maybe they have a website. Chuck
*Gillift - "With a capacity of 300 lbs. you can install a whole section of cabinets at a time""Only $519 plus shipping - Order yours today""Telpro Inc." 800-448-0822www.telpronic.comJLC Nov. '99
*Anyone out there have any experience with the Gil Lift or the T-jack. The gil lift looks pretty good but for $519 I'd want to hear from someone who has used it in the field.
*Crazy legs do you have any experence with the gil lift. It looks almost to good to be true. I'd like to hear from someone who has used one before I spend my hard earned money. Thanks [email protected].
*Nope. I set the base cabinets first and use some short saw horses and shims to set the uppers. But I know most guys do it the other way around. For 519.00 I could take a week off. (well, ok, maybe half a week)- jb
*I bought my Gil lift 5 kitchens ago an I ain't goin back. I install kitchens solo and really enjoy the lift. There was an article in either FH or JLC in the last year that describes kitchen installation using it. It's well built and well engineered but I wish they came up with a method of easy transport. It's all aluminum square tube, channel, angle and plywood that breaks down into manageable but awkward parts. I'm afraid i'm gonna scratch that nice shiny finish. There is included a platform that will rest on top of base cabs so you can crank the walls into position. Ijust haven't figgered out how to get the cabs past the mast onto the raising platform. Now I do wall cabs first. Death to drywall screws for hanging cabs. Square drives for humanity.
