Can a Compound Saw be adj.

I have a Craftman 10 Compound Miter Saw about 4 to 5 years old. Can this saw be adj. to cut sq ? If so how, you push down a locking lever and move the blade to the deg you want to cut. It locks in to a slot. If it can be adj to 90 deg sq will it be on at 45 deg ? Its only off a hair.
