can new parts be put in old stoves
I found an old stove in craigslist and was interested in it but am not sure if thermocouples and stuff like that can be replaced. I’ll look at the outside to make sure the porcelain, burners, griddle, and stuff is fine but I can’t check the control stuff.

Probably, but may be expensive. I just tossed an old Kenmore--maybe 70's vintage(?)--because a replacement temp control was about $150 and the pilot valve control about the same, and both were moderately hard to find.
There's also an old stove web site that can repair some of the old stove parts.
how old???
and yes you may be able to repair it....

We are going to re-model our kitchen in mid-fifties modern coffee house so I've started looking for appliances, lights, etc..
We had a stove just like this one in our first house. I had a little damage to one corner but was a great gas stove.
I found this stove that they say is in real good shape. It is the same stove. I'm going to go look at it today. It has four large burners with a large griddle in the middle and a full sized oven and a separate broiler. behind the stove is a cluster of clock, light, timers. The stove top burners have pilot lights so I don't think there will be any problem there. I'll turn the burner valves to see if they turn easily. I think I can take them apart and clean lubricate them if they are sticky. I've worked on gas water heaters a long time ago and I've learned quite a bit more since then.
I was concerned about thermocouples for the oven and broiler. It's just a thermocouple isn't it? Put it near the pilot and you're good to go? There must be a controller for the thermocouple and oven burner.
I'll have to figure out how to move it without damaging it. It must weigh a lot. I don't think it will fit in my minivan. I need a 50s flatbed truck to move it ;^)
I put down some money on it today. I talked a friend into helping me pick it up saderday. I'll take pictures and post them. I looked fine. He had it restored a while back so it should be in fine shape. I might try to fix some small chips in the enamel. I think I could do a decent job.
I have the beast in hand, or does it have me? Anyway, I'm happy with it and wanted to show off. They don't make 'em like this anymore. The griddle is supposed to have a temp guage in the hole. Maybe I can find one? Our old one had it. I like the word grillavator on the door of the grill.
all you need now is a turquoise '57 Ford convertible parked out front!;)I had to install on that was reminiscent of that - probably a bit older. I did find a guy who could service it. He mumbled and grumbled a little, but everything works now.

When we took it off the truck I asked my neighbor for help. He has an older cars that would fit just right. If we sell and he is still here I might have him park his car in my driveway.
When he saw the stove I think his eyes kind lit up a bit. I'm new in the neighborhood and they don't know me yet. I don't think they have any idea what I'm up to with the house. It's hard to tell what people are going to do.
I'd like to put a matching hood over it. Something with rounded corners and some chrome on it. We'll see what I can get or make. Hpw hard/expensive is it to chrome stuff?

I'm not going to go the whole route. It's to expensive and I never wanted a bunch of fifties appliances and light fixtures. I'm going to do just a few. I mostly want it to be a low key kind of modern style of design. A few details that are streamlined but nothing over the top. I'm not fond of the red knobs and handles. I might end up painting them. It's just that I don't want the interior our the house looking like a fifties dinner. I'm a big fan of elegant subtle modern.
Popa I like the red knob, I think it makes the stove.Wallyo
DONT PAINT THE KNOBS!!!!
That is the coolest stove I ever saw!
Put one of these on top!

there is a shop in port allen louisiana called "hugh's place" that rebuilds old stoves, including installing thermocouplings for standing pilots. i have a functioning chambers stove in my garage that won't fit in the kitchen until we remodel. i used it for a year or two before i moved here.
