I have to texture a ceiling and I want to know if I can skip the first coat of paint if I mix the paint in with orange-peel texture? Or am I asking for trouble? I have heard of people mixing paint in with the popcorn texture. Any information is appreciated.

It sounds as if you need a textured orange ceiling. I would look into a masonary dye and make sure you ask the manufactor about its compatability. You could ask your local paint store too. Or try a few test areas at home . Good Luck
*according to one of my guys, this used to be common in the mobile home company that he worked for.
*Hi Ray...Sure can...had my bedroom ceiling done by a sprayer and he put in a gallon of white (latex believe). Looks great. It was popcorn though.
*You can...but with orange peel, why? If your using a hopper you're not going to have 100% coverage anyway and you would still need to prime. If your determined to use that gallon of primer, prime the ceiling first, texture, then prime and top coat. Barry
