Cantilevered deck joist replacement?
I was asked to rebuild a small (extends 6′ from house and is 8′ wide) second story deck. The existing deck is using the interior floor joists that are extending/cantilevering through the exterior stucco wall. The exterior portions of the joists are in poor shape and must be replaced.
My initial thoughts are to cut the existing joists flush with the exterior wall then to recess them a little seal the ends and install a new ledger board with posts.
Once recessed, what should be done to seal the ends prior to hiding them with the new ledger board? And, should I use something like hydraulic cement to even the ends with the existing stucco?
Thanks!

I think that without any really costly demo to keep that deck cantalivered, the only other option would be yours,to cut the joists off and start over with a traditional deck.As far as sealing the joists maybe insulation, poly, sheathing tape, caulking, and flashing would work if done properly.
