I’m considering building a 200 s.f. shed in my backyard sometime this Fall or next Summer. I’d like to build something creative, not a HD run-of-the-mill shed. I’m thinking of building a cape cod style shed using the new plastic/fake (?) shingles for siding and thick/wide trim around doors and windows (also four over four windows). Does anyone know where a) there are books describing building techniques applicable to this style and b) where I could go locally to learn about how to buy the right stuff? I have a feeling HD doesn’t sell this stuff (at least the unique windows and plastic shingles).
Thanks,
Rob

Thanks much, I printed a number of them out and will possibly combine the best features when designing my own. Any thoughts on where to go for the best materials AND advice? I'm thinking of my local lumberyard instead of Home Depot.

strokeoluck--if you haven't already, find out what lumber yard RELIABLE contractors shop at. Also, ask around about which sales person is most likely to help with the special orders you're most likely going to need. Some are better than others when it comes to the odd-ball stuff [at least at the yard I go to]. I'm betting that you will get better, faster, and a whole lot less frustrating service at a yard that caters to contractors vs. the big boxes. Good luck with you're project.
Definately check out your local lumberyard. Tell them your plans...they may be able to work you out a "packaged" deal which could save you money. Many times if the order is substantial, they will deliver all materials to your jobsite for free...another win-win situation for you...so do inquire.
LOL.
