Hey all, anyone ever seen a 6 panel interior door that had flaky cardboard material used for the hinge side of the doors frame ?At first I thought it was a cardboard shim Found one like this I worked on recently in a townhouse built in the early 80’s. Usually for strength that frame would be wood.Anyone know who manufactured this kind of door???

I have seen it. Supposed to be highly compressed wood fibers. State of the art. Cost effective. Usually there is some kind of insert to hold the hinges and lockset, but it's still a crappy door. On the plus side, it's real easy to trim to fit, just be sure the knife is sharp.

It is a relative to untempered hardboard, tempered is AKA "Masonite". The stuff is the same as the preprimed face skin.
If ya cut it, the new edge will fuzz like a like peach, as soon as the primer hits it.
