I have a new Maax tub in our house. I think these are acrylic. Anyone care to comment on how NOT to scratch this up or ruin the finish? I really wanted cast iron, but could not find a fit in our small space. Looks like the chemical foam cleaners are the ones to use.

I would carefully follow the manufacturer's instruction.
If you don't have them, then look on line for them or cantact the area reseller.

It's Never Too Late To Become What You Might Have Been
I ahev installed two acrylic units in the house - one bath and one shower. The material is called vykril (spelling?). It has been great. We clean it wil tilex.
That sounds correct to me. Just hard to make the mental jump from hard shiny ceramic to vinyl. Those who can make you believe in absurdities can make you commit atrocities- Voltaire
I will check that one out.

If it is truly acrylic then make sure not to use any cleaners with amonia in them. It makes the acrylic brittle and it will check like old paint and yellow. Scrub free comes to mind as a safe product, most dish detergents or shampoos and bleach work well. DanT
I don't know about that exact product but I tell my customers who get "fiberglass" tubs in their homes to use a product like Bon-Ami to clean their tubs and "cultured marble" sinks. If that is wrong I'd certinally like to know.... I tell them specifically not to use a cleanser like Ajax.
I think that is to harsh. I tell them to treat it like it is a boat. Esentially it is a boat inside out. Even the cultured marble has a high epoxy or fiberglass content. I reccomend a heavy solution of Dawn dishwashing detergent and water. It does a great job removing soap scum and oily residue. Towel dry and follow with a fiberglass wax. Keep the wax off the "non skid" texture (just like on a boat). Harsh chemicals and cleansers, even bleach, will hasten the flattening of the glossy finish.

Good point. When I used to have boats I cleaned them meticulously, but never with any harsh cleaners. I used the soft wax.
I'm not sure I'd recommend (especially in writing) to use wax in a bathtub though for liability reasons. I know you said not on the non-skid surfaces, but sometimes people don't closely follow directions and then when something goes wrong it's human nature to want to blame someone else.
For me, maybe the best answer is to try to get the manufacturer's recomendations (in writing), and pass them along to the HO.
At the very least I'll adopt your liquid dish soap recommendation.
Wow, thanks everyone. Didn't know tub cleaning had so much cache'. Glad to see some folks think it matters. It just not a ceramic world anymore. Those who can make you believe in absurdities can make you commit atrocities- Voltaire
Dale, anything wrong with using a spray cleaner between wax jobs? Isnt the gell gloss a fine polish?
Most of the time you will be safe going with the manufactors recommendations. Luck.
another question, how do you get the decals off these type tubs.. 2+3=7
I know that it seems like a stupid answer, but the manufactor will answer this question most of the time, you should have a 800 number that came with the directions. I know that its a pain in the azz to use the phone, but that might be the solution, Luck
