here’s a new one (at least to me)
Got home tonight and the DW explained a situation that happened with one of our ex-neighbors (a friend). This person parked in somebody’s driveway and forgot to put on the parking brake. The car was apparently on an incline, and went forward to roll into the owner’s car. The owner’s car was then pushed backwards into the garage and punched out some concrete blocks in the end wall.
From what i’ve been told, the blocks are still in the wall (not pushed out completely). Our ex-neighbor wants to do something about it, and i gave DW the name of a handyman to pass on to her. But it does make me wonder what would be the appropriate response.
Lots of unknowns so i apologize. Since it’s the end wall opposite the garage door i’m assuming it’s not a bearing wall (ridge running down the middle). The block is about 2′-8″ high, then a stud wall above that. My response was to push the blocks back in and repoint, but i am flawed and am reminded of it on a daily basis by 2 preschool boys. Any other responses/suggestions however would be duly noted.

Bearing or not, it's not the right way. They should cleaned/replaced and be laid up with morter taking care of all the separation.

will pass on all the advice, thanks!
My mother did that. Father had built a garage behind out house, did evereything himself. Two cars wide but only one-car door, with a shop on the side. About 2-3 onths after it was done she was backing in and didn't stop ijn time. That was back about 1960 and the garage is still standing.

push back in, and fill cells with concrete, not going anywhere.
How's he gonna fill the cells?
easy...tear the garage down, push the blocks back in place, fill all voids full...rebuild entire garage...see...easy!seriously, I just got done doing about the exact same fix but the courses were only 3 high (24"). I put in a temp wall to carry the weight of the garage above, jacked the wall up to just carry the load, pushed the blocks back, removed 6' of the mud sill plate, filled and re-rod in the voids (I went every other), replaced the plate, lowered the wall...all with the city's engineer and inspectors blessing of course.knowledge without experience is just information....
