I am installing a case arched opening and am going to use Flex-Trim Molding for the head piece. My question is how do I figure the angle where the head piece meets the vertical?

Fit the cheap one to the expensive one.
Draw on the wall width line for the casing. (pretape that area and write on that).
Mark a square line from the inside of the casing at where the mitre will take place, across to the outside of the casing.
Bisect (cut in half) the distance between the two lines. Mark that from outside to inside of casing line. That's the angle you want on both pcs. as they sit in position on the wall. Now, on the flex trim you might have to temp position it in an arc so you can transfer the mark. When you take it to the saw you adjust the mitre setting to coincide with your mark (you'll be cutting it placed straight against the fence).
* that angle for the flex will not be the same as your wood casing.
Reset your mitre angle and cut the side casings. Use a pc of scrap or cut it long till the fit is how you want it.
We had a long thread on this exact same question within the past month. (Can someone get Search to work??)

flex trim????
what is flex trim molding? dont u guys get it milled in an arch to match the window jamb?
you guys?
You do what you got to do to keep the price of the material down
or
to lower the labor cost.
So the customer continues to be happy with your work, calls you back for more projects and spreads the good news around to excellent future contacts.
Flex trim-a rubbery flexible molding in many profiles-perfect for paint and possible for stain-so I hear.
Thats' all I know. I didn't ask the question, just tried to provide an answer. Perhaps the guy that did will see this and respond to your queery.
Thank you for your concern.
I whittle it to match with my pocket knife.
