I’m having trouble with my cast iron radiators’ paint peeling off. The first two units on the loop continue to peel no matter what I do to them. Is this because the heat is too hot at the beginning of the loop? Does anyone have tips for stripping the old paint and applying the new? Is there a special paint I should be using? Greg E.

I'm in the middle of restoring a dozen rads. I sent them to a metal cleaner who sandblasted them and I'm painting them with automotive paint. The paint is rudely expensive but looks great and should last forever.
A friend has had good experience with painting Circa(sp?) on rads and covering them up overnight. He claims the paint just falls off after that.
By the way, I heard that you can buy radiator paint brushes that reaches inside the rungs.
Good luck
Paul
*Greg:Removing the paint, first obvious step can be chemical, physical (blasting) or have them burned off and pressure washed. Look in the yellow pages under paint stripping, I have had success with burnoff, it turns the paint into an ash. But once either method is used work fast due to rust, it can start in a few hours.I have powder coated radiators with good results, again check yellow pages. Jeff E.
