   You don't say where you live. But I assume you don't live in the Yukon or rural Alaska where there is lots of empty space to absorb the combustion pollutants. So, the purpose of the catalyst is to help you as a good citizen keep the air breathable for you and your neighbors. So, how good a citizen are you?

   Folks,

   My Chimeney Sweep told me the catalytic converter in the woodstove is cracked. He said I could burn the stove without replacing it. The stove sends more smoke up the chimeney and it has been less effecient as we have run the stove with the damper open since he told us the catalytic converter is cracked.

   I priced the little ceramic replacement part. They want $150 for that silly thing.Would you all replace it or just run the stove as is?
