I have used a 'caulking' that comes in a one gallon pail for repointing the inside of fireplaces. I found it at a specialty fireplace shop.
*Thanks Rich, that a start.
*Are you needing to seal a penetration through a rated assembly?
*Yes, thank you. That is it exactly.mike
*Top notch products from Tremco - http://www.tremcosealants.com/catalog.asp?navMode=0&catalog_id=2
*Mike, Stores in our area carry it in the regular tube for the standard gun. 3M makes it I believe? Its required in our area now as suppliment to fire blocking and plate penetrations. Its $10. a tube so I use it very judiciously.Mike
*Thank you a very helpful and interesting site.Mike
*Hummmmm?? 3M? Really... I'll have a look at it. Thanks!Mike
*Hilti has a fire caulk also. Wear gloves while using because caulk seems to gravitate towards skin and clothing.I was working in an art museum fire caulking the penetrations in the ceiling of the art vault. I looked down and saw them uncrating a multi-million dollar painting by one of the old world masters. I asked them to move about 10' further away as I knew my boss only carried 1 million in insurance and one glob of caulk would put us out of business.
*Mike Shulttz, Cool story. You know, if it would have been a Monet or other Impressionist work, you could have just smudged the caulk glob around and no one would have known the difference... ;)Mike
*This brings new meaning to Restoration, Renovation and Remodeling! Mike

What are the best "fire proof" caulks? Anyone have experence here?
Please advise.
