Simple, maybe dumb, question here. I’ve got a gap at the end of my baseboard heater and the wall which I’d like to caulk for painting the room.
Do I need to use a firestop caulk or is regular acrylic latex + silicone acceptable? If the firestop, is it going to swell when the heats on enough that the paint will fail/look like crap?
Thanx

use a polyurathane caulk..
won't dry out like acrylic..

Thanks, IMERC. I was hoping for something a little easier to work with but I'll take a look at the spec sheets.
folks use latex for that application all the time.. just seems to dry up and shrivel over time...

Unless the baseboard heater is already painted/caulked in place, I don't like to use caulk here. For the very best paint job, I like to remove the cover pieces and usually the end cap needs to be removed first. Caulking it to the wall would make it's removal difficult.
Consider using a small piece of molding (maybe quarter round or cove) and lightly tacking it in place with a dab of glue. Latex caulk would work, just don't use hot glue.

Hmm. I don't think I can take the cover off. Its rock lath walls and I think the heaters were put in after the sheetrock and then the brown coat of plaster and veneer coat went up. So the cover is recessed a bit into the wall. Thanks for the molding tip.I guess the main answer to my question is that I don't need firestop caulk.-bob
