On a remodel I visited this morning, the carpenters were installing 5/4 fully primed T&G fir on a semi-exposed porch. They were laying in a bead of caulk in the groove before they set each plank and face nailed it. They said that it promoted greater water repellency and extended the life of the decking. This is a new one on me. Anyone else out there ever used thsi technique? Pros/Cons, comments, etc?
