Hi Folks We are thinking of using the 2′ x 8′ cedar panels now available to side our home. (cedar shingles attached to plwood panels) Anyone have any experiences to relate or warnings about this product?
Thanks

I used them with great success on a bathroom dormer. We really saved alot of time cutting the cheek walls. We used Shakertown.

*Jef, I've used the Cedar Valley Siding Panels on a job in Maine this year. The existing house was hodge-podged so badly, a resheathing would have been needed for clapboard or hand-applied shingle to work. After cost/benefit analysis, the customer opted for the Cedar Panels. Two carpenters and a helper whipped out 6+ square in just under 7 hours... tear off, and window trim included. The customer pre-stained using Cabot's Bleaching Oil, so the job looked finished as it was done. Impressive, and there have been favorable comments by neighbors and friends.
*i found that scrap was minimal except of course gables etc. this was a plus considering the cost. one man install is very possible and not hard to keep right. follow manufacturer guide to sealing/flashing the joints. had a little trouble 10 yrs ago getting rep to replace some pcs. that were bogus on deliv. this was the shakertown product. looks beautiful, and the pre-stain feature on the ground is a blessing. get a bndl extra for possible damage later. they changed the product a bit in 7 yrs when i sided the garage. had to alter it a bit to match up with what i had.
*These are cheaper to install, but every installation I've seen telegraphs joints at panel seams and corners. Also I've never figured out how to properly flash sheet siding at windows--I think you end up depending on the caulk. So it's cheaper but I think definitely second best.Doug
