I’m residing a section of my home that is adjacent to the chimney. In this area the chimney arches over the fireplace and the shingles there are rotting – especially at the top of the arch where the chimney goes vertical again. I don’t see any flashing on the arch and am not sure of the best way to handle this….There is currently about 1/2 inch gap between the siding and chimney. Should I maintain this gap and just caulk it after I finish residing? Any ideas?
