Does anyone have a rough sq.ft. cost for installing suspended ceiling track and tile?
I’m figuring a rough estimate for a previous customer of ours who now wants us to do an office build out for him? We’ve done some suspended ceiling before I just want to compare our numbers and see where we are at.

Depends on a lot of things:
- 2x2 or 2x4 grid? More grid pieces and more tiles with the 2x2
- 15/16" or 9/16" grid? The 9/16 is more fussy
- Flat lay-in tile, or tegular edge? The tegular tiles are more work to cut and fit at edges/corners
- How high is the structure you're hanging wires from? How high is the ceiling itself? Both will affect how fast you can go- I can set 8' grid and tiles from the ground if I have to (I'm 6'4), whereas 10' needs a Baker scaffold
- Is the area wide open, or is it cut up into dozens of offices?
See why a per SF price is so hard to give? The big commercial ceiling guys I work with actually break jos down into different area types- big open spaces, cut up hallways, etc., and offices- and assign "levels of difficulty" and different prices to each. Gotta look at all that stuff to get a good number and make money.

$ 1.50/sq. ft standard installed USG
$ 1.75/sq. ft nicer tile installed USG
$ 4-5/sq.ft Hunter Douglas installed
assuming typical everything (heights, obstructions, etc)
I believe Jerrald Hayes formula of taking the materials and multiplying it by 2.5 or 3 usually works for me.

Ok, according to Hawk our numbers are wihtin reason. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't way out in left field. I figured I would be way high if anything.
I know nobody likes to give sq.ft. prices and I understand. i was just in a hurry to double check myself and make myself feel better.
It's actually about 1850 sq.ft. One large "exercise room", a small hallway, and two small bathrooms. Hanging off about 12' down to 9' height. Flat lay in tiles. Chicago grid.
