At a clients request I’m researching cellular PVC decking for a project. If anyone has experience using this newer decking material I’d appreciate your opinion as to workability, ease of installation, fasteners, etc. Besides cedar, I’ve used quite a bit of Trex composite decking and wonder how they compare. I have used Azek cellular PVC for trim and found that it really expands in the warm weather. That would be a concern.

What are some brand names of celluar pvc Im unfamilar, Ive just put down some stuff that was a real hard plastic it was called Eon, and I could fill you up with opinions of that stuff, some techiques and so forth. Three decks worth 75x12, 70x20, and 10x20 plus 20' stairs, landings, and all the goodies.
Danno,
I think Azek was one of the first to make cellular PVC trim and now has come out with a decking, as has Trex. VEKAdeck is another one I've heard of.
I haven't used the Eon decking yet. Around here only Home Depot carries it. I've wondered though about the ease of installation with those hollow types versus the solid composites. Also do you find the Eon to be slippery?
No not slippery but I wouldn't consider Eon to be a composite. When I think of composite I think of trex or timbertec, Eon is a real hard plastic that melts most of the time you try to cut it. The composites I've used, you can work more like wood. Eon is a totally different animal in my opinion, that's why I asked because I don't know what the technical name for the material would be.
If your saying cellular PVC is azek than Im with ya, and I have installed lots of azek and its nothing like Eon either. Azek seems too soft for decking though I guess the decking materal would be a little more dense?
I agree that Azek trim boards seem too soft for decking but I don't know if the composition is different. Hopefully someone reading Breaktime has some experience with it.
Azek has a decking now too.....it's a different product than their trim
i could see no discernable difference between the AZEK deck product and the new Trex cellular deck productMike Hussein Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
