Hello,
I have exterior cement stairs and a walkway that needs patching. There are some small holes (2-3″ in diameter) and long cracks where water is getting in and finding its way into my basement (through a field stone foundation.) What materials do I use to patch this cement? Do I need some type of bonding agent? I am attempting to patch this so that I can get through the winter in Massachusetts, which can be very cold and snowy. In the spring I will replace the walkway and deal with the basement leak.
Any advice greatly appreciated. Joe

There are several products available that would get you throught the winter. There is a concrete grout available in caulking tubes. There's a powder called jetset that you could mix into a slurry and apply. any type of masonry bonding mortar could also be slurried and applied. If you're more worried about water penetration than aesthetics, I would use asphalt roof caulking. Fill the holes and cracks and let dry thoroughly before walking on them.
Google for Abocrete.
Do it right, or do it twice.
