I’m installing a central exhaust system for a friend. Need a little tip to get me off center. Joining several baths to one fan using rigid ducts and ‘Y’. Trouble is, the Y’s that you buy seem like the air flow is against the grain of the seam. The upstream 2 legs should be straight ducts to put crimped ends into and have a crimped exit to put a straight duct into. I’m missing something simple (got CRS), here and forget even what I did two years ago … go figure. Thought I could buy the ‘reverse’ style Y, but apparently that is not the case. … what am I forgetting/not understanding?

You may have to go to a sheet metal shop, but I've seen Y's without any crimps. If you can find them, you can buy a crimper for a few bucks and crimp whichever leg(s) you need to.
Right. I thought about that a little as an option. thanks much
